MotoGP, Honda also loses Mir, only Marquez racing in Sachsenring GP

After Rins, even Joan won’t be able to be there, due to a contusion that limits the strength and mobility in his hand. Marc is the only hope on his favorite track: “But I’ll have many opponents this year.”

MotoGP: Honda also loses Mir, only Marquez racing in Sachsenring GP

Honda will have only two riders at the Sachsenring. Not only won’t Alex Rins be there (he fractured his tibia and fibula at Mugello) but neither will Joan Mir. Back home, the rider of the official team underwent an MRI at Dr. Cuesta’s Centre d’Imatge Diagnostica in Andorra. The examination revealed a contusion of his right hand, with synovial fluid and inflammation, which limits the strength and mobility in his hand.

In light of the results of the MRI, Mir won’t participate in the German GP. He will, instead, be  going to Palma to be visited by his trusted traumatologist, Dr. Juan Garcias, in order to assess the best treatment and recovery plan for his injury so that he can return t o racing as soon as possible.

Honda has decided not to replace him at the Sachsenring, where everything will be on Marc Marquez’s shoulders. The German circuit is one of the kingdoms of the Spanish champion, where he has won, uninterruptedly, from 2010 (when he raced in the 125) to 2021. He, however, did not race there last year, since he was recovering after arm surgery.

Theoretically speaking, Marquez is the favorite for the next Grand Prix, but it’s also true that he’s in a difficult time due to the Honda’s poor level of competitiveness. At Mugello, last Sunday, he fell in an attempt to fight for the podium.

When you have a difficult weekend, the best thing you can do is get back to racing right away, and that’s exactly what we’ll do,” Marc said. “We're going to the Sachsenring. A track that I’ve always liked a lot and on which I’ve won a lot. Of course, I’m going with the desire to do well. My concentration and my determination are one hundred percent, like always. This year, there are a lot of opponents, and we’ll have to work well from the beginning of the weekend to prepare for Saturday and Sunday and continue to work with Honda to improve.
