The big day has arrived: Marc Marquez and Joan Mir together on stage at the Repsol headquarters in Madrid officially kicked off their season. The two Spaniards took the wraps off their new Hondas by unveiling the new colours for 2023.
As always, the team has opted for tradition with graphics that are virtually identical to the ones we have come to know in the past, to which Mir wanted to add a touch of fluorescent yellow with his number, while Marquez chose white.
Marc Marquez commented: "I had a normal winter, for the last 4 or 5 years I had always been injured, so I was able to train and rest and now I want to be 100% for the first race in Portimao. You always have to be optimistic in testing, we all have to go in the same direction: I'm coming from the worst 3 years of my career and the same thing goes for Honda. We are all working hard. What does Joan bring to the team? What every rider in this team must have is the ability to win. We have provided similar comments on the bike and that helps the job. I hope we will fight together for the top positions."
Joan Mir said: “It's an honour for me to be here, I'm nervous because I've imagined myself wearing these colours so many times and now I really want to start. I think Honda is coming from complicated seasons and we're trying to find the best package. It's not easy because I have to adapt to a totally different bike from the one I was used to. I have already been able to reach a good level and give useful information. A change is always fresh air for a team and having Marc as a teammate means competing with the best, so we have to push each other".
