MotoGP: Honda: speculation on Davide Brivio and Alberto Puig for 2023

Marc Marquez made it clear on Thursday that something needs to be changed in Honda. “There’s a  communication and coordination problem between Europe and Japan,” he said. “Even more than the technical aspect, it’s the managerial one that needs to be reviewed, and the counter-moves must happen quickly.

Alberto Puig’s management style has flaws and, in order to run for cover, they need to find a new person. Who? In recent months, Davide Brivio has been mentioned. After leading Suzuki to success, he accepted Alpine’s offer in Formula 1. But his four-wheel adventure isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, and now he’s handling the youth project. It wasn’t what he expected, and so he’s probably feeling nostalgic for the MotoGP.

If the path leading to Davide had been recently interrupted, in the past few weeks, especially during the last Silverstone GP, there seems to have been a turn around.

According to what GPOne has come to know, Honda doesn’t plan to to do without Alberto Puig, who would remain on the team, but he’d be supporting Davide Brivio, so that they’d share the tasks and strengthen the team together.

The Italian manager would be perfect for this role. He worked (and won), first with Yamaha, then with Suzuki, so he knows the mentality of the Japanese and their working method very well. Moreover, in both cases, he managed to perfectly integrate the qualities of both.

Thinking back to Marquez's words, Brivio would be the perfect answer to his requests.
