SBK: Biaggi expresses great esteem for Troy Bayliss, as a rider and as a man after controversial comments

Recently Max Biaggi published a post on Facebook in which he revealed some details of his year with Ducati in Superbike. It was a confession that led to a lot of chatter on social media, but which has also been misunderstood by some. Especially because it involves another great Superbike rider, Troy Bayliss.

For this reason, the Roman Emperor wanted to make this addition to his 'confession' to clarify what his relationship with Troy is.

"Looking through my leathers today I found one that I used at the 2003 Motorshow, for the Supermoto race, leathers with a special and very iconic livery.

The Motorshow was an institution and as it took place at the end of all the championships, many of us got together to race and have some fun. In area 48 a nice circuit was set up immersed in the crowded stands, where we riders challenged each other on Supermotards.

The only drawback was the low temperatures, which did not encourage racing due to the lack of grip. However, as always happens among us racers, no one ever backed down. It was still a race, and no one wanted to finish second.

One of the races of the weekend was the Americana, a series of elimination races, where the last riders were eliminated from time to time. That year Bayliss and I got into the final round and fought for the win. Due to the very slippery track surface, Troy unfortunately had a crash! At that point I stopped to give him a lift on my bike. We did the last lap together and crossed the finish line with a wheelie. Apart from the result, which had no value, thanks to that last lap that I shared with Troy, in an atmosphere of great celebration, it was a moment that I remember with immense pleasure.

Seeing these leathers again made me think of Troy and I’m glad to go back to my previous post, which I wrote in response to some not particularly nice declarations about me. Troy and I raced together for a few years, and I want to make it clear that I have profound esteem for Troy, as a rider and as a man. In fact, for me Troy is one of the strongest riders I've had the pleasure of meeting in my career and irrespective of the bike he rode in 2008, I'm sure he would have won that championship anyway.

In the saddle we are all fighting for victory, and no one wants to finish second, but in the heart of each of us there is the awareness of how much a great opponent is worth. When you are on the track you try to annihilate him, when you stop racing you miss that! "
