Hayden: I'd like to do another MotoGP race

Hayden is not simply visiting Silverstone, but was actually ready to put his leathers on and climb on the Honda if Miller had been unable to ride. Many in the paddock would have been pleased to see the Kentucky Kid racing in MotoGP again and the man himself wouldn't have turned down the opportunity to step back in time for a weekend.

Jack is a friend of mine, you never want to replace someone because of a physical problem - he underlines - but there was a chance he'd be unable to race. Honda asked me if I'd be available and I'd have liked to do a MotoGP. I also really like the Silverstone track. It would have been fun”.

Maybe you'll have a chance to wildcard in the future...
I would like to ride a MotoGP again. Last time was with an Open bike and wasn't so much fun. Never say never”.

Do you still follow MotoGP? This is a strange season, there have been six different winners in the last six races...
I think the tyre and electronics changes are interesting. I've watched all the races, when there's a flag-to-flag it's all so unpredictable but I prefer the dry races where it's all more normal”.

Do you think the championship's already over?
Anything's still possible, I know MotoGP well and nothing's decided yet. Marc is very smart, he's not repeating past mistakes and for Valentino and Lorenzo it'll be tough, but there are a lot of races close together now and so a lot could change”.

Turning to SBK, you've had a long summer break…
I think we might have had more time off this summer than over the winter. But I don't consider myself to be on holiday, I've continued to train, I've been testing at the Lausitzring two weeks ago and before that there was the Suzuka 8 Hours”.

There's a Marc Marquez in SBK too, known as Jonathan Rea. How can you beat him?
“He's a very strong rider and the Kawasaki team does a great job. I am learning a lot this season, from the tyres to the track, and I hope that next year the updated bike will hep us further”.

Will it be a totally new bike?
I'm not sure, it's best to wait for the press release (he laughs)”.

But you will definitely have a new team-mate…
It's always important to have a strong team-mate, like Van der Mark and Bradl. With only one bike and little time to test, it means we can share information and help each other”.

You and Stefan won't be the only riders coming from MotoGP, as next year Melandri and Laverty will join you…
I reckon it will be a great championship, with new teams and young, fast riders. I think it's a positive thing that riders are arriving from MotoGP”.
