Jonathan Rea will finally be able to return to the track. After two abundant months of absence following the complex injury suffered to his left foot in February at Phillip Island during the last SBK winter test in preparation for the season that would start a few days later at the Australian track, the Yamaha rider showed up at the Cremona circuit and underwent the ritual checks and was defined fit to participate in the race weekend.
To be precise, the Northern Irishman, who in fact has not raced at all in 2025, will be able to shape up to the rest of his colleagues in Free Practice 1 and later will have to be further evaluated by doctors to get the final okay.
"I feel good," said the six-time world champion, "It's good to be back in action. It 's been a long road, but I've really only missed a few races (Australia, Portugal and the Netherlands). I dedicated every day to trying to recover as quickly as possible, so I thank everyone who helped me make FP1 possible," he commented.
"From a distance I was happy to see Locatelli win for the first time in the championship. In these early rounds the R1 has proven to be competitive and this gives us confidence and motivation, in the belief that all our hard work over the break will pay off. Tomorrow morning I will be able to have the proof, enjoying the fact that I am back on the bike," he then concluded.
