In the past, the entry lists for the three motorcycle GP classes have sometimes been published as early as mid-September at the Aragón GP. However, the entry lists for the Moto3 World Championship 2025 will be published later than ever before by the selection committee (consisting of IRTA, Dorna and FIM officials). Namely, only after the Junior GP final on November 24.
The reason: Following the hasty change to the minimum GP minimum age in 2022, the regulations for entry into the Moto3 World Championship have been changed again. Successful riders can now make their debut in the smallest world championship class at the age of 17 instead of 18.
The new rules allow the overall top 3 from the JuniorGP (formerly Junior World Championship) to move up at the age of 17. Some teams will therefore have to wait and see which talents finish in the top three of the overall standings at the Junior GP finale in Valencia on November 24 and are therefore eligible for the GP class. And then it may take another week until December for all the details to be negotiated and the contracts to be drawn up and signed.
At the moment, leader Álvaro Carpe has clearly pulled away, but ten riders are still in contention for the top three. And a total of 50 points will be awarded in the two JuniorGP races at the finale!
It was a bit easier for those teams that have picked the best young riders from the Red Bull Rookies Cup - because this racing series already ended in September. But Brian Uriarte (second overall) is still too young for the 2025 Moto3 World Championship.

Liqui Moly Intact-Moto3 team owner Peter Öttl has already secured the Spaniard David Muñoz as the new number 1. In addition, the German team boss wants to sign a newcomer according to a proven recipe. “Although Muñoz is only 18 years old, he has been riding in the World Championship for more than two years now, because in 2022 he was only allowed to ride from May due to the minimum age. So he is still very young. Now the permitted starting age is 18, with the exception of the top 3 Red Bull Rookies or JGP at 17, so David's team-mate can be a maximum of one year younger. Nevertheless, Muñoz will be one of the top riders for 2025 and the plan is to have a rookie alongside him. Whether that works out remains to be seen.”
“I am very happy to join Intact GP next year. It has been the team that has wanted me the most from the first moment,” explained Muñoz. “I trust them fully as they have proven to be one of the top teams, constantly fighting for podiums and championships.”
Öttl will line up with Collin Veijer and Tatsuki Suzuki in 2024. However, the Dutchman is moving to the Rd Bull Ajo KTM Moto2 Team and the Japanese rider will not get a new contract due to disappointing results.
The smaller private Moto3 teams such as Michael Laverty's FleetSafe Honda MLav Racing find themselves in a difficult situation. This is because the top teams continue to snap up the best riders. The Englishman made Dennis Foggia (he turn 24 years of age on January 7th 2025) an offer, but was turned down by the Italian because Aspar Martinez (CFMOTO) was also interested in the experienced Italian. Foggia will ride for CFMOTO alongside Max Quiles, who is only 16 years old for the time being.
However Max Quiles, currently third overall in the JuniorGP series, will not be able to take part in all races in 2025. He will only turn 17 on March 19 - and will have to miss Thailand (February 28) and Argentina (March 14).
Dorna bosses are delighted that Pierer Mobility's Moto3 participation remains strong, as it has not only supplied the bikes for the Red Bull Rookies Cup since 2007, which has already produced eleven world champions, but also equips the majority of the Moto3 teams in addition to the two MotoGP teams and the Red Bull Ajo Moto2 team.
In the 250cc single-cylinder four-stroke class, the Pierer Group uses four brands on identical KTM RC250GP machines in a total of eight GP teams with 16 out of 26 riders. Honda will also field five teams with two riders each in 2025.
The Aspar team continues to promote the Chinese Pierer partner CFMOTO and won the 2024 Riders' World Championship with David Alonso, who already has twelve victories to his name this season, surpassing Valentino Rossi's 125cc record from 1997.
KTM equips six other racing teams in addition to the Red Bull KTM Ajo Team, Husqvarna was on board with Liqui Moly thanks to team owner 2023 and 2024, but this brand is being withdrawn from GP racing by Pierer in the same way as GASGAS at Tech3.
Team boss Peter Öttl is therefore returning to KTM after five Husqvarna Factory years.
