SBK, Michele Pirro returns to World Superbike for a wild card at Misano

"Ducati has confirmed itself to be the benchmark in MotoGP and with the new championship rules this will not allow me to wild card. Not being able to race at Mugello, I will do it at Misano in SBK."

SBK: Michele Pirro returns to World Superbike for a wild card at Misano

After dominating at the Autodromo di Vallelunga, where he took his fourth win of the season in CIV Superbike, Michele Pirro is already starting to think about his next appointment, which will not be the Mugello round of Italian domestic Superbike championship. Despite the fact that the entry into force of the new MotoGP regulations prohibits Ducati and the experienced Apulian test rider from making wild cards at least until the summer, before thinking about the third round of the national series, Pirro will be back in action in a World Championship. This time, the production-derived championship.

As we had anticipated, and as confirmed by Michele himself, the 37-year-old will in fact be on track with the Ducati Panigale V4R in the next round of the World SBK Championship, scheduled for June 14-16 at Misano, to do what will be his first wild card in WSBK in the last five years.

"I'm a bit disappointed there are three Ducatis on the podium in Barcelona, because that means I won't even be doing a wild card, but that's part of the game," Pirro said, smiling after Race 2 . "Because of the new MotoGP regulations, I won't be able to do wild cards in the championship until June, and since we've proven again today that we're still the benchmark, it will be difficult for me to do races from June on. Since I cannot race in MotoGP at Mugello, therefore, I will race at Misano in SBK. It is a different bike, with different tyres, but I have already done a test in Barcelona and will do another one next week. I hope to have fun and be a part of the action."
