MotoGP: Mir's 'Big Bang' and Hamilton's universe: MotoGP and F1 in the mirror

Lewis Hamilton cries while clinging to his steering wheel, tightly holding on to his seventh world title in Formula 1. They are the same ones that his career idol Michael Schumacher won in the past, but the hubbub of legend and confrontation in Hamilton have never scared him.

“As a boy you dream of these moments, when you watch Grands Prix. But what I have achieved goes far beyond dreams ”.

Joan Mir is crying too. Alone, inside his helmet. Long seconds before returning to the paddock to hug his mother again and then begin to understand what happened and what this incredible first world title in MotoGP really is.

“I don't know, I don't know. It is a mix of different emotions. It happens when you pursue a dream all your life and then manage to make it come true. Now I have to relax and put my thoughts in order ”.

Tears divide, tears unite. It looks like a Hollywood drama, instead it's a genesis. There is something primal in the tears of these two champions, something that affects us all, that makes us participate in the birth of something great.

For Mir all this is really a big bang: from the success of this title an entire universe has opened up. When some GPs ago he was asked if he felt the pressure, he tried to be vague, shrugged his shoulders, said that basically it would probably not be so different from his success in Moto3. But when he came to the finish line today, and crossed it, Mir realized the power of what he did.

"It’s a dream that becomes reality". He used to skateboard as a kid. His father sold them in his surf-board shop: with or without wheels to glide on the water, it didn't make much difference. Mom furnished apartments and kept all the family dreams together. Then there was Uncle Joan, the one who Mir sent into ecstasy every time he saw him on the bike. Perhaps this worldwide success was already born there, at the moment when Mir decided to rely on fate.

Today, at the age of 23, the Majorcan boy has climbed to the Olympus of the greatest. Without Marquez, with an outdated Valentino Rossi. As an outsider. In a world championship full of twists and turns worthy of a great thriller. In the paddock, with Suzuki celebrating, there is also Mir's mother, a leather jacket, a smile that lights up: "Joan fought so hard to get here, I think he deserves it one hundred percent. We have tried to support him, we have always done it ”.

On the other hand, in these days of confusion it is the family that bears the burden. It also happened with Hamilton. When as a child he listened to his father telling him: Lewis, if you want something you mustn’t give up, you mustn’t do it, you understand?

And then he said yes, and threw himself headlong into things. Now Lewis is there, once again world champion, symbol of the fight against racism, the only black driver in Formula 1.

"In the beginning I only felt free to be myself with my helmet on". Hamilton did not need this success, he was already way beyond. He had already overcome everything: boundaries, pains, limits. This victory helped him to enter legend.

"I hope that kids, after seeing what I have done, can take it as an example. If you want to achieve results, you must dream of the impossible, follow it without ever giving up and questioning your abilities".

Nobody believed that he would have the ability to win again, and then again, again, again. With this consistency. But Lewis's strength, even at 35, was this: to want more and more.

Now another challenge begins for both of them: to confirm their success. And it doesn’t go without saying that for Lewis it is easier than for Mir, the weight of success risks becoming heavier and heavier. Both of them will try again, the desire to make dreams come true by going faster and faster is too strong. If you take this away from some drivers or riders what is left? A few laps on a track, the adrenaline, and not even a few tears to wipe dry…
