MotoGP: Successful surgery for Tito Rabat

His testing came to a premature end. A crash on day two at Sepang forced Tito Rabat to wave the white flag and immediately leave Malaysia to return to Spain. Yesterday evening, the rider underwent surgery, an operation carried out by Doctor Xavier Mir at the Hospital Universitario Dexeus in Barcelona.

The Marc VDS rider has injured the quadricipital tendon in his left knee and fractures the radius in his right hand. After two hours in the operating theatre, surgery came to a successful conclusion. Over the next 48 hours the Spaniard's physical condition will be evaluated, and he will spend a total of four days in hospital, taking a course of antibiotics to prevent any infection.

On Monday, a decision will be made as to his rehabilitation. Recovery times are still be established, as Michael Bartholemy explains: "The good news is that the surgery was successful – commented the team principal – unfortunately the knee injury ran the risk of infection, as it was an open wound.  Knowing Tito, he's already checking the flights to Australia - added Bartholemy – for now we need to be realistics, because there's no point hi coming back until he's fully fit”.

On his Twitter profile Rabat thanked the many fans for the support they've shown over recent days.
