Moto3, Bastianini beats Binder to break the fast at Motegi

Second career win for Enea in a photofinish. Ono disqualified, 3rd for Bulega

Bastianini beats Binder to break the fast at Motegi

The fifteenth Moto3 race of the season was extremely hard-fought from the first to the last lap... over twenty laps it seemed that Brad Binder, the new world champion, would win a race that he was dominating but, on the very last lap, Enea Bastianini attacked him and was able to get past, defending himself well and crossing the line first in a photofinish.

A great win for the Gresini team rider on the Honda, the second win of his career after that of Misano last year; Enea rode using both his right wrist and his head, he knew he had good pace and decided where to attack his KTM rival: today it was 'all or nothing' for me -said Enea in parc fermé- at the last braking point I braked a lot later than Binder and the last turn proved decisive, I defended myself well and crossed the line first”.

Bastianini, thanks to this result, is now second in the championship, while another strong result for Binder means he hasn't lost his smile. Another who was smiling was Japanese rider Hiroki Ono, on the podium for the first time, and at his home race.

Fourth for Nicolò Bulega with the KTM of team SKY VR46, though the young Italian, who turns 17 today, would probably have liked to celebrate with a podium. Nicolò is now fourth in the championship, and the best rookie in Moto3.

Fifth for Philipp Oettl, sixth for Fabio Di Giannantonio, Francesco Bagnaia in seventh followed by Livio Loi, Fabio Quartararo and Joan Mir.

The final twist came with the disqualification of Ono (due to an underweight bike) which meant Nicolò Bulega was awarded third place.

Classification: Binder 269, Bastianini 164, Navarro 143
