SBK: The racing world mourns the passing of "Mimmo" Maggiali

As we approach the holiday season, sad news comes to us from La Spezia. At the age of 82, Guglielmo "Mimmo" Maggiali has passed away. The Ligurian photographer was a regular presence in the Superbike paddock until the 2024 season. During his long career he chronicled the golden years of the producation-based racing series, participating among other things in several MotoGP events, without forgetting of course CIV and even Formula 1.

A kind, friendly and generous person, he was known by everyone in the paddock: in fact, every year, at the beginning of the season, he would pay tribute to the insiders with his "Superbike Calendar," 12 shots that portrayed his love for two wheels.

He shared his passion for photography with his machine shop, which he ran Monday through Thursday. On weekends, however, he would travel to the circuits and chronicle the races through his images. His adventure in the world of photography began in 1977, following in the footsteps of the great Franco Villani.

From there he embarked upon a path that took him around the world and that today reunites him with his La Spezia.

To Mimmo's family, relatives and friends, our deepest condolences.
