SBK: BSB season sadly begins with tragic death of two riders at Oulton Park

What was supposed to be a great celebration at Oulton Park unfortunately turned into a nightmare and then a tragedy. The first round of BSB 2025 provided a lot of  excitement with SBK, with the victory of Leon Haslam who had switched to Ducati and amazed everyone. But when it was time for the Supersport category to be held on the Cheshire track, bad luck entered the scene, dealing a very tough blow indeed.

At the start of the race, as the still compact group was coming into Turn 1 Old Hall, a rider lost the rear of his bike, ending up highside down in the middle of the group. Some riders managed to avoid him, but for those coming from the back of the group and without any visibility, it was impossible to avoid the impact with bike and rider in the middle of the track. A total of 11 riders were involved and unfortunately two of them did not make it. They are 21-year-old Owen Jenner and 29-year-old Shane Richardson. Still in the hospital is Tom Tunstall, who was hospitalized with back and abdominal injuries.

The rest of the events scheduled for this first BSB event were immediately cancelled. To the families of Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson go the heartfelt condolences of the GPOne editorial staff.
