SBK: Sting coming for Ducati: FIM ready to reduce fuel flow

Last week, representatives of the various manufacturers met to analyze and evaluate what happened in terms of performance in the last round at Portimao and the one at Phillip Island. The one that particularly ended up under the magnifying glass was Ducati, the big protagonist in Australia and then in Portugal, despite the fact that it just missed out on victory by a whisker against Toprak and BMW.

Because of what we saw just over a week ago, there will be no more talk of a Ducati Cup, even though the Panigale V4 has undoubtedly proven to be the best performing bike in an overall context from the start of the Championship to date.

That said, taking into consideration the average lap time of all the Ducatis in relation to the average of the other bikes over the entire race weekend, the FIM will almost certainly put its hand on the regulations in the coming hours.

It's not yet official, but according to what we have learned, Ducati will have to deal with a reduction in fuel flow, the current value of which is set at 47 kg/hour (mass value, not volumetric).

According to the 2025 regulations, every two rounds the FIM considers whether to intervene or not, so ahead of the Assen round there will be a maneuver by the Federation. Therefore, the Panigale will be slowed down and will probably be by half a kilogram of fuel, thus bringing the figure to 46.5 kg/hour.

Also at risk of being "slowed down" is BMW with Toprak lowering the average time after the hat-trick of wins on the ups and downs of Portimao.

Acting on the flow of gasoline involves a kind of "streamlining" of the carburation. All this therefore goes to affect the character of the engine, which becomes more abrupt and difficult to handle when changing gears, particularly when accelerating.

We therefore remain awaiting official announcements in the coming hours.
