Alonso: "If I read this letter I will have become world champion"

"At the thought of the title, my eyes fill with tears. I don't know if I am prepared for the situation. It has been my dream since I was a child, but now that it is getting closer, it seems far away."

Moto3: Alonso: "If I read this letter I will have become world champion"

At Motegi, David Alonso made history by becoming the first Colombian to win in MotoGP. With four races still to go the 18-year-old Aspar team rider put his definitive seal on a championship that has seen him cross the finish line ahead of everyone else on no fewer than nine occasions, the last one being in Japan itself.

Over the years we have witnessed all kinds of celebrations at the winning of the title, but never before had we witnessed a rider, in the heat of the moment, reading a speech written the night before his coronation.

Still excited with the emotions of what had just happened to him, the newly crowned champion shared his writing with everyone by reading it out loud to the microphones of DAZN.

"There are less than twenty-four hours left, it's evening and I just feel like crying. I look in the mirror and say to myself, 'tomorrow you will be world champion,' and my eyes fill with tearsI don't know if I am really aware of the situation and if I am prepared for it. This is the dream I have always had since I was a child, and now that I have it in front of me a few hours away, it seems so far away. I just hope I sleep well so the dream doesn't leave me or I don't know. The only thing I do know is that if I am reading this letter tomorrow after two o'clock it means that I did it, or rather, that we did it," the thought that includes the team, but especially his parents who allowed him to finish this first stage of a career that promises to be full of success.
