Moto3: Motegi, first match point for David Alonso: the combinations for the title

After achieving in Indonesia his ninth victory in 15 races so far, David Alonso is taking big steps toward winning the Moto3 class title. Just this weekend in Motegi (here is the TV schedule of the weekend), the Colombian of the CFMoto Aspar team will in fact have the first useful opportunity to close the games for the championship and become World Champion with four rounds in advance.

Leading the standings with 296 points and a good 96 ahead of the first of his pursuers Daniel Holgado, when there are still 100 points left to be awarded, in order to mathematically win the title already in Japan Alonso will only have to widen his margin over his direct opponent by another 3 points. While at the same time ensuring that he does not lose more than five to Ivan Ortolà and seven to Collin Veijer, who occupy third and fourth place in the championship, respectively, with a gap of 105 and 107 points.

Alonso World Champion at Motegi, if...

Winning a tenth victory in the season, with which he would equal Joan Mir as the rider with the most wins in a year in Moto3, would allow the Colombian to graduate as Champion without having to make any kind of calculation. Should David fail to make it to the top step of the podium, he will instead have to start considering the placings of his rivals as well in order to close the games as early as Motegi.

Placing first in the GP would in fact allow Alonso to win the title only in the event that Holgado does not go beyond third. With a hypothetical third place, however, Holgado could do no better than fourth, while Ortolà and Veijer would not have to win the race. With the world championship leader in fourth or fifth, Holgado could do no better than 6th or 8th, while Ortolà and Veijer should do no better than the bottom step of the podium.

These are all the possible combinations:
