In Jerez it soon become clear that Enea Bastianini would miss Le Mans after he tried to start the Spanish GP. At this point the Barni Spark Racing Team was happy to give Danilo Petrucci the chance to return to MotoGP for a race with the Ducati Lenovo Team. Petrux will therefore take the place of the injured Enea in the French GP, scheduled from 12 to 14 May, and will be back on track with the Barni Spark Racing Team in the WorldSBK round on 2-4 June at Misano.
"Ducati asked us about Petrucci's willingness to replace Bastianini in MotoGP and we are happy to give him this opportunity – said Marco Barnabò, Team Principal of the Barni Team - As Barni Spark Racing Team we are always proud to collaborate with the factory. I wish the Ducati MotoGP team and Danilo the best of luck on this adventure".
"I am thrilled to be back racing in MotoGP, although I am sorry that Enea has to miss another race – declared Petrux - In Le Mans with the Desmosedici GP, I won my last race in MotoGP. It will be an honour to be able to try the World Champion bike and wear the suit that I won with in the past. It is an indescribable emotion, and I can't wait to get back on track with the Ducati Lenovo Team. Thanks to Barni for letting me take this opportunity and to Ducati for thinking of me!"
You may recall that Petrucci's last appearance in MotoGP was on the Suzuki at Buriram. Danilo had started from the back row of the grid and then finished in 20th position in the GP, 42" behind the winner Miguel Oliveira, the first time he had ever ridden the Hamamatsu bike.
The 'long bench' of the Borgo Panigale manufacturer allows the Bolognese manufacturer to field highly experienced riders. There is also a possibility that at the end of the year, if the championship situation permits, we will also see Alvaro Bautista on board a Desmosedici.
