MotoGP, Bezzecchi: "Without Valentino all this would not have been possible"

"It made me grow as a person and as a rider, but I also have to thank my family for all the sacrifices they made. In the race, I felt at one with the Ducati. I was speaking to it to maintain concentration"

MotoGP: Bezzecchi:

Bezzecchi on the podium at Termas de Rio Hondo wearing the Argentina shirt and 2015 immediately comes to mind, when his mentor and 'boss' Valentino Rossia was on the top step to celebrate and pay homage to Maradona. The pupil like the teacher, at the end of a race in which Marco won his first race in the Doctor's team in MotoGP.

“It’s fantastic, it’s something that you can’t describe, it’s incredible - he said it all in one breath I didn’t expect this when I left home. As soon as I started riding here I felt very well and I was at one with my bike.”

The rain exalted you.

“When I saw the rain this morning I was really sad because I said ‘no, I was so good in the dry, for sure it will be difficult in the wet’. But when I jumped on the bike in warm-up it was amazing. I started believing again and thought I could do this. I enjoyed riding and was really, really focused. Everything went well. It was a long journey. It was very tough, easier the first half because I was pushing to get away, but then I was desperate to finish the race. To maintain concentration, I spoke to my bike".

You talked about a long journey, who do you have to thank?

“It was difficult for my family, as every rider knows, they made many sacrifices. Now it's great, when you have a good moment you remember the difficult ones and you feel rewarded. Not only my dad, but also my mom and sister supported me from day one."

What role did Rossi play in all of this?

"Without Valentino and the support of my family it was almost impossible. Vale gave me the possibility to grow as a person, as a rider and step up in the world championship and step up to MotoGP. Thanks to him!"

You also brought Messi to the podium.

“It was incredible to see the autograph. As soon as I got the shirt it was unbelievable. Messi the goat as is Vale for the motorbikes, Messi is the goat for Football. I immediately made fun of Migno because mine was autographed”.

You are also leading the championship.

“I didn't even notice. We are only in the second weekend and the next one will be in Austin, a very difficult circuit where Marquez is unbeatable. It's too early to think about the championship, I want to enjoy this moment, keep working and then we'll see what happens."

In Argentina, you won your first Moto3 race in 2018 and got a tattoo. Do you have another one planned?

“I don't know, probably yes (laughs). I'll think of something."

What do you feel better at this year?

“I know the bike better and this helps a lot. The Ducati is fast but you have to be able to get the best out of it, braking and corner entry are the points where you can make the most difference, like Pecco, I think I have taken a step forward in those areas".
