Moto2, Five stars for Zarco at the Red Bull Ring

Fifth win of the season for the Frenchman, who extends his championship lead. Great second place for Morbidelli, after passing Thomas Luthi, third for Alex Rins.

Five stars for Zarco at the Red Bull Ring

The hardest thing for Johann Zarco was quite possibly his usual backflip at the end of the race, which he made wearing his helmet and a typical Austrian costume that he threw into the cheering crowd.

This is Zarco's fifth win of the season, and he put together the perfect race: a calm, risk-free start, a climb up into second place, a perfect attack to get in front of Morbidelli followed by a clear run to the finish line. Johann, once again, showed his rivals how it's done.

The Frenchman is the strongest of all the riders in the championship, and with this win has now achieved the most career podiums, knocking the great Christian Sarron off the top spot. In parc fermé Zarco, with his future in MotoGP already secured, commented: “I was careful at the start, because it was easy to make mistakes; after a few laps I knew I could attack Morbidelli, despite some braking issues. I knew that with the new tyres I could be the fastest and, once in the lead, I maintained the pace right to the line”.

Final second place for Italian Franco Morbidelli, who put together a great race, executing it without any errors and demonstrating one of the best riding styles: “I'm really pleased, also because the gap from Zarco was marginal and especially because I wanted to beat Luthi... passing him was great”.

Alex Rins rounds out the podium, but the Sito Pons rider was never in the mix for the win. The gap from Zarco is now a significant one, while a double crash for Sam Lowes means the Brit definitely needs to try for the win in the next race at Brno.

Championship standings: Zarco 176, Rins 142, Lowes 121
