Marc Márquez is currently hospitalized at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, where he successfully underwent two surgeries this morning.
The medical team, led by Dr. Samuel Antuña along with colleagues Ignacio Roger de Oña, Andrés Maldonado, Jorge de las Heras, Raúl Barco, and Juan de Miguel, successfully stabilized the fracture of the fifth metatarsal in the rider’s right foot (a fracture of the fourth metatarsal was also discovered). The injury occurred yesterday following a highside crash in the final stages of the Sprint race at the French Grand Prix.
At the same time, Márquez underwent a second, previously scheduled surgery to address a long-standing issue with his right shoulder. This injury, stemming from a violent crash at last year’s Indonesian Grand Prix, had become painful again.
Doctors removed two screws and a bone fragment from his previous Latarjet procedure in December 2019, which had shifted and were compressing the radial nerve.
As previously announced, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider will not take part in next week’s Catalan Grand Prix. He will remain in the hospital overnight and return home tomorrow to begin rehabilitation.
The progress of his recovery over the coming weeks will determine when he returns to racing.
