Eleventh in Free Practice 1 and eighteenth even in pre-qualifying, Fabio Quartararo tried to take with philosophy yet another false step after his negative Sunday at Silverstone. So, although Friday at Aragon didn't exactly put a smile on his face, he almost wanted to joke about it in his post-practice analysis.
"We almost made the pole position from the other side. It was a really tough day, especially with the soft tyre that we don't understand what really happened with electronics and stuff. The bike is just moving for no reason and the problem is you never know when to expect it. In any case it's not the best when you're on the bike at full lean angle and you never know if you're going to lose it on the edge or on the exit. And I didn't make any laps. So the four laps I did were all cutting or making mistakes. We will have to find a solution," was his account of the day.
"This morning I struggled with the lowerer as well. In the afternoon, however, everything was fine from that point of view although I would have preferred to break it today rather than in the race. The setup of the bike is great. It's since Qatar that we've just touched a few things, but the electronics must change," he explained.
Speaking of grip El Diablo said, "It wasn't bad in my opinion. Obviously it was not at the top, but the position I'm in has nothing to do with grip. I wanted to make the last time attack with the medium tyre, but we didn't have it because clearly it was really tough to ride the bike. In the sprintif we still have the same problem I think I will use the medium."
"Of course you exit bad, you want to brake later, but you go wide, you make mistakes. Every lap I was keeping trying but at the last moment I didn't want to fly just to go into Q2, it was just like that," he went on to explain the disappointing result.
Finally regarding the riders who are currently engaged in the TT the Yamaha rider said, "It's crazy how fast they go on the street. I don't know how they can completely disconnect and skim the walls at 300 km/h. For me it's a different sport and I respect all the protagonists."
