A special star will be present at Rainey's Ride To the Races, now in its 5th year: namely, Wayne, who'll be measuring himself up against other MotoAmerica champions at the Laguna Seca circuit on July 11th.
The three-time 500cc class MotoAmerica World Championship legend will ride a few laps on a Yamaha XSR900GP made especially for the occasion. Once again, proceeds from the event will go to the Roadracing World Action Fund, a non-profit organization that promotes safety in motorcycle racing through soft air barriers.
Other big names will be joining the 64-year-old, including Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson, Bubba Shobert, Freddie Spencer, Kenny Roberts Jr., Rick Johnson, Doug Chandler, as well as Bud Aksland, motorist and, above of all, the person who discovered Roberts Sr.; Kel Carruthers, two-time Isle of Man TT winner, champion in the 250 cc class in 1969, and dominator of AMA racing in the early 1970s; and Erv Kanemoto, the soul behind Spencer's World Championship successes.
The event will not end at the historic track but will run through the Carmel Valley, the Monterey Peninsula, the Santa Mountains, and the Salinas Valley. For the princely sum of $700, up to 50 riders will be able to have fun with these legends and even have lunch and talk with them in the Paddock Suite located at Turn 3 of the track.
