MotoGP, Iannone: Viñales? If I hadn't stood up the bike we would have crashed

The Maniac reveals: “It is not a problem, these things can happen, complaining is pointless. The crash? I had no more grip”

MotoGP: Iannone: Viñales? If I hadn't stood up the bike we would have crashed

Another Sunday to forget for Andrea Iannone. The Suzuki standard-bearer landed in Spain fortified by his performance two weeks ago in Austin, but a crash knocked him out of the game. And to think that in the early laps, he had even set his sights on the podium.

“Unfortunately, I did not finish the race and that is very disappointing, because the goal was to achieve the best possible result. I struggled a lot with the tyres, both the front and the rear, so as a result, everything became more complicated.”

What exactly happened?

“I lost the front and ended up in the gravel. The goal now is to take another step forward for the tests.”

You made contact with Viñales.

“I never complain. These things can happen. He braked too late and if I hadn’t stood up the bike we both would have ended up on the ground. It doesn’t matter. Today it happened to him, whereas maybe it has happened to me in the past. You need to be understanding about certain things, because we ride bikes that go 300 kph and you can make a mistake. Complaining about how the others ride is pointless.”

What will you take away from this Sunday?

“I am happy about the start, since I managed to be fast and close to Marc.”

Do you think there was a step forward in terms of electronics?

“No. We did not focus on that aspect. Unfortunately, we suffered a lot because of the heat and it was a pity, because Saturday we had good grip.”

Was the grip the biggest obstacle?

“Exactly. Everyone lapped slower and it is not easy to manage it.”

Tomorrow you have the tests.

“I will need to figure out the best direction to go, trying to take some steps forward like I did this weekend, for example on the front.”

Will you aim for redemption in France?

“I have positive memories of Le Mans, since in 2016 I was fast. I am enthusiastic about going back.”
