MotoGP: Dovizioso: Petrucci didn't play fair

Andrea Dovizioso is naturally angry after crashing without blame, but Espargarò is not his target, but rather Petrucci. The Ducati rider was fighting with Danilo when the scene occurred and it was a manoeuvre by the latter that caused the incident.

Let's start from the beginning.

I was pleased because I was able to make up many pleased despite not having great speed, I don't know why, I was lacking grip over the entire weekend. In the end, I could have fought for 5th place - he says - I came up behind Danilo and I saw his rear tyre was finished, I tried to pass him but he was braking hard and making some moves that were on the limit, not just with me. He was closing all the doors without giving others the chance to save the situation, he was risking a crash”.

And that's what happened.

It's normal for each rider to exploit his strengths, but Danilo was exaggerating, he caused it all -explains Dovi - I almost touched him, I was just able to avoid him, but Espargarò was close, he crashed and hit me. Aleix made a mistake but Danilo didn't play fair. I'm very disappointed, I could have scored important points. I have a good relationship with Danilo, I'll talk to him but I don't think he'll care much” he laughs.

Andrea also wants to analyse his performance over a weekend that was more complicated than expected.

In Qatar we never had these problems so we need to understand why, if the reason is set-up, the tyres or the track - he says - At Austin we'll fight back but tyres are conditioning performance right now. It was the same here, ths was a disappointing weekend though I'm pleased with how I've managed the situation”.

The first Ducati across the line was that of Bautista.

There's not a big difference between the GP16 and GP17 and the satellite riders have a competitive bike now. I've known Alvaro for years and his performance didn't surprise me - I congratulate him”.

LORENZO: NOT USED TO STARTING SO FAR BACK - If things were bad for Dovi, they were worse for Lorenzo. His race didn't even last one corner.

I made a good start, making up 4 or 5 positions, but at the first turn there was chaos, Iannone braked a little, I don't what happened, i touched him, I was lucky not to hurt myself. I'm not used to starting so far back - he explains -  It had been a positive weekend, we were able to make important changes and improve in braking, but we weren't able to put this into practice, I'm disappointed about that”.

Jorge looks back at the progress made that morning.

“In warm up I had gone well, I wasn't extremely fast but I was constant, as I hadn't been up until then- his words - I was getting used to the new seat position, which was better, and to ride using the rear brake more. We found the right direction to take, but weren't lucky enough to be able to demonstrate that.

The Majorcan can't wait to get back on the bike.

“I really wanted to improve and adapt to the bike and instead I only completed one corner. I'd like to race in Texas right now - he smiles - There were many crashes, I  think I could have been quicker than in warm-up, finishing 5th or 6th. I hope to confirm our progress at Austin, I know it's difficult to see the positive side right now but we're trying”.

Don't think that Lorenzo is regretting leaving the Yamaha, after seeing Vinales' performance.

I'm pleased to be in Ducati and take on this challenge, I think we'll get there”, he assures us.
