Moto3: Mcphee scores pole at Rio Hondo, Bulega 2nd

The second qualifying of the year for the world championship circus after what was a wet Saturday at Qatar, with the Moto3 getting things started as usual. Under grey skies, a rather strange session came to end, with riders quick to carry out a time attack in the early stages as they worried rain would reappear, and in fact it did, albeit only a few drops, in the final stages.

While Friday was dominated by Joan Mir (who will start from 16th), today's stand-out was John Mcphee. He has earned pole position for tomorrow thanks to a time of 1’49”094, which saw him close 0.154 ahead of Nicolò Bulega, who completed his fastest lap seconds as the chequered flag was waved to finish first among the Italians. Third place for team Gresini rider Jorge Martin (+0.229), ahead of Canet and Fabio Di Giannantonio (+0.392), who nevertheless scores a solid grid position for tomorrow's race.

Another Italian in sixth place, or rather Romano Fenati (+0.399), followed by Guevara and Andrea Migno. Ninth for the SIC58 Suzuki team rider, while Oettl rounds out the top ten, around eight tenths from the front. Qatar race winner Joan Mir will start from 16th.
