Rain Man Hayden takes his first SBK win

The American returns to winning ways after his last victory at Laguna Seca in 2006, Giugliano 2nd and Rea 3rd

Rain Man Hayden takes his first SBK win

There's always a first time, as they say. And that goes for Hayden today, who scores his first Superbike win,and also for Honda, that hasn't been on the Sepang podium until now. It couldn't have gone any better, with the American proving to be 'rain man' in Malaysia. On a track that was almost unrideable due to the adverse weather conditions, the American immediately showed what he was made of, taking an early lead and holding on to it tightly all the way to the line. A convincing win for #69, and one that puts an end to the 'fast', considering that the American hadn't won a race since Laguna Seca in 2006.

Behind him Davide Giugliano. A real hard-fought race for the Borgo Panigale rider, who battled it out with Sykes, Rea and teammate Davies. In the final stages he almost had chance to reach leader Hayden, but had to settle for second in the end.

The final podium sitter today was Rea, with Davies just losing out in the final stages to finish fourth. A fantastic fifth for West, riding the Kawasaki of Team Pedercini for the first time, while van der Mark eventually got the best of De Angelis to close sixth. Sykes, Camier and Reiterberger rounded out the top ten. Savadori 14th, Vizziello 16th in front of Scassa. DNF for Lowes (broken left collarbone).
