MotoGP, Di Giannantonio: "I'm not in the Academy, I live in Rome, but VR46 will help me"

"We decided not to change the program, but we will do some training together. In Qatar some difficulties prevented me from expressing my full potential. I will decide my future in June"

MotoGP: Di Giannantonio:

After seventh place at Lusail in the opening round of the 2024 world championship, Fabio Di Giannantonio has great ambitions for this weekend in Portugal. Last year, the victim of a crash during testing ahead of the GP on the Portuguese track, the 25-year-old preferred not to ride out the controversy caused when he pointed the finger at the gravel used for the run-off areas, which he defined as too hard.

“I don't know if it has been replaced, but I plan to take a walk along the track to get an idea, before talking about it at the Safety Commission. However, I am certain that improvements have been made - he stated, finishing further buoyed by the confirmation of the change - When something is done for safety it is always positive", he welcomed the news.

His morale is therefore sky high. "The potential is very high and the speed is there - he remarked - We were also strong in the tests. Unfortunately, the weekend in Qatar was particular because I had problems both in the Sprint Race and on Sunday, which I cannot reveal. But I'm happy, because if there are some critical issues and we finish seventh it means there is margin. I'm confident. I want to continue working with the team in this sense and progress. We also plan some training to do at home to improve on the flying lap, which is what we're missing, but I think we're on the right path."

“In 2023 this was the opening round and I had just come off the back of a disastrous year in which I hadn't been able to find the right balance, plus I had come from two bad crashes in which I hit my head and I wasn't okay. Now I'm in a better shape than ever. I worked hard during the break, the team is awesome, I like the bike a lot, so we are in a good situation -  he continued - I consider myself a fast rider, growing up with those who have achieved a lot I expected that I too would be at the top like Bastianini and Bagnaia for example. It felt strange to struggle. With the arrival of Frankie Carchedi in the garage last year everything changed and I understood many things."

Regarding his routine outside of the tracks, Fabio revealed: "I will continue to live in Rome because I am part of the team but not of the Academy, so it is different. We preferred not to change the program given that as far as I'm concerned at the end of last season it worked well. But we will do some training sessions together as it can be useful for both parties, also they will follow me a bit more.  I know that for example if I need extra training they can help me. It will be a bit of a novelty because the riders usually organize themselves, so having someone available to come to your home to help you prepare for the races is a big step forward".

Going into detail about his weekly training plan, Diggia then said: “I don't really like using other types of bikes because they don't come close to a MotoGP. I have all kinds, but I mostly try to rest and focus on my physique. I already spend a lot of time in the saddle during the season, so when I'm at home I want to relax."

Finally, regarding his future within the team, Fabio remained evasive: “For now I'm not thinking about it. We are in March, almost in April and we are only at the second round of the championship. I believe that the useful date to know something more will be June. At that moment I will evaluate my moves and assess the situation of the other teams. At the same time it is not something I am responsible for. I make the final decision, but Diego Tavano, who works for me, takes care of the negotiations and I believe he will take care of everything."
