Normally the term air-intake refers to a system capable of bringing more air, i.e. more oxygen, to the engine to be burned. In Aprilia's case, however, the function is to evacuate as much hot air as possible from the rider's 'cockpit'.

"The one that works the most is the big one," Maverick explained yesterday, "but it creates so much pressure, when I'm in the fairing, that it lifts my helmet, so I think we'll use the smaller one. We've put temperature sensors on it, and thanks to the device, it drops 5°. Unfortunately it's not so hot in Malaysia this year, but as the temperature rises you should feel an even greater effect.
