Moto2: Vietti leaves Fantic for KTM: racing in 2024 with Öncü in Ajo team

Celestino Vietti will be leaving Fantic to join KTM. In 2024, the VR46 Riders Academy rider will be racing with the Ajo team (the Austrian constructor’s strong arm in the Moto2), taking the place of Pedro Acosta, who will be moving into the MotoGP. And that won’t be all for the Finnish team, because Albert Arenas won’t be continuing with Ajo. He’ll be replaced with Turkish rider Deniz Öncü, from the Moto3.

“I’m super excited,” Vietti said. “It’s a great opportunity for me, so I’m very happy with the news. I have to thank KTM and Aki Ajo for believing in me. I also thank the VR46 Riders Academy because, without them, all this wouldn’t have been possible. We still have a long way to go before the end of this season, so I’ll have to finish it in the best way I can with my current team. They helped me achieve many important results this  year. This will allow me to gain the confidence to start off the new season well. Thank you very much and goodbye, until 2024.

Deniz Öncü said: “I’m very happy to move to the Moto2 with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team. The main goal this season is to improve in the Moto3 and get good results to fight for the title. We’re doing really well together and, so far, we’ve achieved victories in Germany and in Austria. I want to thank Aki, KTM, and Red Bull for their trust in me and for this opportunity. And I also thank  my manager, Kenan Sofuoğlu, for always supporting me.”

Team Principal Aki Ajo added: “The last few years in the Moto2 have been very successful for us and, of course, we’ve enjoyed working with all these different riders. This year, with Pedro and Albert, was very intense and fun. They both improved a lot. We got a lot of podiums, and we’re even at the top of the standings. Next year, we’ll have a new line-up. Deniz Öncü and Celestino Vietti. I have to say that we’re excited to have a great mix of experience in this class and of young talents with Deniz, who we already know. I think this kind of combination is a great chance for success in the Moto2 next year. In the past few seasons, Celestino has proven to be one of the best riders in the category. Of course, we’re very happy to have him in the team along with Deniz, who’s one of the fastest riders in the Moto3. The combination will be great, and we’re excited about it.
