Christmas is still a long way away, but Aleix Espargarò has received a special present anyway. It comes from Japan and it is the Suzuki GSX-RR MotoGP with which the Spaniard raced in 2016. The Hamamatsu manufacturer wanted to thank Aleix who, together with Maverick Vinales, had developed the bike when he returned to the premier class in 2015.

Aleix made a video, which you can see above, in which he talks about the emotion he felt seeing the GSX-RR at his home.

"Incredible. Thanks to Sahara-san and the entire leadership of Suzuki because for the Japanese it is practically impossible to have a MotoGP bike. They never give or sell it – were Espargarò's words - I had been pushing them since I left Suzuki and they always said no, and when they retired they contacted me and told me that they were very excited I could have the motorcycle with which the project began as a thank you. I thought it was a joke, but now here is the 2016 GSX RR. It's a dream, I’m freaked out, I’m like a small child, Suzuki is the first factory that trusted me and changed my life forever".

Even Aleix is surprised at how much MotoGP bikes have changed in a very short time.

“I no longer remember how small the motorcycles were, it is very narrow, looks like a Moto2. It's incredible how much the MotoGP bikes have evolved to me over the years,” he said after getting on it.
