MotoGP, Bagnaia: "It was impossible to win against Martin today, but I enjoyed it"

Pecco took pole and 2nd place in the sprint: "Jorge made the difference in the second sector, I'll study it for tomorrow. With a bike like mine, he's already getting the results I expected from him last year"

MotoGP: Bagnaia:

A pole position, a 2nd place in the sprint race and the championship position unchanged, Bagnaia remains in the lead with 21 points over second, which however is no longer Bezzecchi but Martin. Pecco is satisfied with his day at Sachsenring despite having been beaten. "From a fun point of view, it was the best sprint of the year. When Jorge overtook me and Miller at the penultimate corner, I was almost scared by the idea of arriving 3 side by side at the next braking point" he smiles, taking it sportily.

So you didn’t settle for the place in the race?

“It was impossible for me to win against Martin today, he was too strong. I pushed from start to finish to catch Jorge, but he had more, especially in the second sector where I've always struggled these days, I must improve for tomorrow".

Was that his secret or does the different fairing also have something to do with it?

“It's thanks to him, I rejected that aerodynamics because it didn't help me in the long corners. Jorge was able to get better traction at maximum lean and I'll see how he manages to make a difference in that sector. I'm very strong under braking, but perhaps a different setup is needed on this circuit. I don't have to find big things, he'll try something in the warm-up, I know I still have some margin".

Did Martin surprise you?

“Jorge is doing what I expected from him last year, but we had different bikes, and I knew it wasn't easy for him. He'll certainly be very strong tomorrow, today he gave me 2.4 seconds in a sprint, and he's worked a lot with the medium tire these days. He is in better shape than at Mugello”.

Now that you have more experience on the GP23, where has it improved compared to last year's Desmosedici?

“Certainly, under braking and corner entry, it also has a bit more grip on the rear and handling. On the other hand, it wheelies more”.

There were many topics to talk about in the Safety Commission, from changes to the format to problems with the pit lane, but there were very few of you there. Why?

“We have a busy schedule, sometimes it's difficult to come because you have work to do in the garage. I always prefer to be there because I want to help, every rider's point of view is important. As far as exiting the pits is concerned, a rule would be needed which obliges you to stop and let the rider who is arriving pass. For the format, it's now impossible to change the weekend schedule, I don't know if there have been so many crashes because of the format or because we're all always close to the limit."
