SBK, Bautista set to test the Ducati MotoGP at Misano on 20 and 21 June

"I'd also like to do a wildcard: Valencia was offered to me, which I don't like. If I go back to MotoGP, even for just one race, it won't be just to make up the numbers. I'd like to race at Phillip Island"

SBK: Bautista set to test the Ducati MotoGP at Misano on 20 and 21 June

There was the name of the circuit, only the date was missing, now there's that too: on 20 and 21 June, Alvaro Bautista will finally test the Ducati MotoGP.

The Spaniard, who won the Superbike title last year and is dominating the championship this year with 14 wins in 15 races, will do the test as a sort of prize. For the moment, a wildcard has not been decided, even if Alvaro spoke about it recently at the Misano race.

“I could do it at the end of the year, so as not to have any problems with the championship, but it would be at Valencia, a track I don't like very much - confessed Bautista, who added - I'd rather do it on a track where I go fast, like Phillip Island, because of course if I race in a Grand Prix it won't be to finish tenth!”.

The obligatory reference is to the came/saw/conquered by Troy Bayliss in Valencia in 2006, when as World Superbike champion he achieved victory in the race that gave the title to Nicky Hayden.

The former 125cc world champion, born in 2006 and now 38, then raced in the 250cc class, arriving in MotoGP in 2010. Two years with Suzuki ended with two 13th places overall. Moving to Honda in 2012, he finished fifth overall. After three years with the Japanese manufacturer, he was signed by Aprilia at the beginning of his adventure and raced there for two seasons before racing with Ducati in 2017 and 2018.

Michele Pirro will also be present at the Misano test, in the not unusual role - for him - of 'tutor'.
