Phil Read passed away in his sleep, in peace, after a life always lived on the limiter. The Prince of Speed, as he was called, marked an era, winning 7 world titles (split between 125, 250 and 500, the first to do so in the three classes) and entering motorcycle racing legend by right.

Many people in the paddock from the racing world wanted to remember him and big their final farewell: riders of the present and of the past, teams, professionals, simple fans. Phil Read has left a mark in the history of motorcycling that no one will ever be able to erase. "Your legacy will live forever" wrote his chief mechanic Ferry Brower, while Livio Lodi, curator of the Ducati Museum, recalled how the Briton was the first to score points in the premier class on a Ducati.

A life, that of Read, which resembles a novel and which, having reached the final chapter, one wants to read again, and again, and again.
