SBK, Vladimir Leonov to wildcard at Imola

After Aragon, the Russian will also race in Italy with the Kawasaki of team SPB, that also wants to take part in other world championship races

SBK: Vladimir Leonov to wildcard at Imola

Already a star of the Aragon round, Vladimir Leonov will also take part in the Imola round, the fifth of the season, with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX10RR.

The Russian, competing with team SPB, should have raced at Assen too but, having only two wildcards to use for now, he preferred to sit out Holland in order to focus on the Italian track instead, one he knows well, having also competed in the Italian CIV series.

Vladimir has a good bike, prepared by Ferdinando De Cecco, expert hands in the production-derived series and a man who has previously worked with Gregorio Lavilla, now Dorna Sporting Director.

It is Nando who explains how this adventure began: “wet set up a team almost as a game and, thanks to the enthusiasm of Leonov and a few Russian friends, here we are. The team is small but well organised. During the Aragon tests we were fast, after having working hard on the Kawasaki. We have the potential to do well, we got into SP2 in Spain and an unfortunate crash prevented us from improving... the aim at Imola is to reach the points zone in both races”.

Will you do more wildcards?

We'd really like to; there might be chance, we need to see if Kawasaki Europe can give us an updated technical kit. We are keen and we are sure that with some more track time, we could beat many: we have the necessary technical skill and Vladimir knows how to twist the throttle”.
