MotoGP, Lorenzo: “My wins are quickly forgotten”

Jorge underlines: "My recent difficulties are given greater weight, but I want to finish strong with Yamaha"

Lorenzo: “My wins are quickly forgotten”

He arrives in Malaysia after the disappointment of Phillip Island and with a Maverick Vinales who has his sights set on third place in the championship. It's clearly not an easy time for Jorge Lorenzo. The Spaniard prefers to remain confident, and looks to bounce back at Sepang.

You were impressive during February's tests.

“That's true, but it's all different this time, tyres, bike. There are many different aspects that have an effect and right now we can't know. The track has also been resurfaced and the final corner has been modified. We need to wait for practice to see what the situation looks like.”

Michelin has brought a new tyre.

After the tests carried out there will be an even harder tyre to ensure further grip. In Australia I suffered a great deal, this time I hope that the situation's different in the heat”.

Is Sepang a chance to get back to winning ways?

“I hope so. I think I have a good chance, though like I said there are some variables to keep in mind as a result of track modifications. Marquez is very strong and I need to say how he does with the tyres. If I have the right one, I can fight for the highest step of the rostrum”.

In this final phase of the season, Maverick Vinales is closing in on third place

“The classification is not my priority. I have two races left with Yamaha and I want to give it my all and end as well as I can, that's my aim. At Motegi we were unlucky, a podium would have put me one step further forward”.

Expectations for this season were very different, but then difficulties arose.

“Unfortunately in recent races I've struggled, but it's still been a positive season. I'm sorry that victories scored in the past have been so quickly forgotten, overshadowed by the recent problems”.

Yamaha hasn't won for nine races now.

“At Misano Rossi was very fast, but then Pedrosa arrived. At Motegi we were competitive, but were penalised by the tyres. We'll definitely be strong until the end of the season”.

Last year, at Sepang, there was the debacle between Rossi and Marquez. What do you have to say?

“I don't live in the past. Last year was great, I made a good race, and won the title. Now we need to concentrate on the present”.

Jarvis recently stated that Rossi was wrong to attack Marc in that now famous conference.

“Lin expressed his opinion and that should be respected”.

Rossi spoke about a conspiracy. What do you think now?

“That's his opinion and I respect it as I do everyone's opinion”.
