Brad Binder, in 2023, set a MotoGP top speed record during the Sprint race at the Mugello Grand Prix: 366.1 km/h. The KTM RC16 that starred in that feat is now for sale, auctioned by Sotheby's. To take home a piece of history - of course - you are going to have to have to have deep pockets: in fact, the estimate is more than 350,000 euros, even though the bike is offered for sale without a reserve price, that is, without a minimum figure to be awarded.
Otherwise, it is just like the one used by Binder in 2023: with its V4 credited at 295 hp, official Magneti Magnelli ECU, seamless gearbox, carbon brakes and air valve timing. The bike will be fired up in front of the buyer to demonstrate that it works, while possible track use will have to be discussed with KTM.
There are a number of particular stipulations to be borne by the buyer after purchase. The buyer must agree to do his or her best to keep the bike in perfect condition, and it is also forbidden to make modifications and/or changes. The engine is sealed and cannot be removed or disassembled. The motorcycle sold is for display purposes only and is not intended for road use, racing or any other use as a means of transportation. It is also specified that any claims regarding the on-road or off-road rideability and safety of the item are therefore expressly excluded. Furthermore, the buyer grants KTM Racing GmbH a right of first refusal in the event of resale of the vehicle.
In other words, it feels more like buying a museum piece than a motorcycle, but the value for collectors is still very high.
