MotoGP, Marc Marquez: "The crash in the race? It was a left turn, overconfidence"

"I thought I would only lose a couple of tenths, and I was sure I would come out unscathed. I sinned in confidence, but I'm not mad at myself. The manufacturer will decide if Ducati could give my brother an updated GP25."

MotoGP: Marc Marquez:

Marc Marquez never forgives and even in a non-competitive context such as the Jerez de la Frontera test he wanted to end the day in the lead. Still reeling from yesterday's missed opportunity to further take the lead in the overall standings, the ace from Cervera set the record straight by showing once again who is the man to beat.

"The program was very long with several things to try. Some were pieces already tested in Thailand and the sensations were good. The chassis was the usual one, while the small lever you could see on the left is for loading the rear at the start. Before it was placed in another position, but it was bothering me and I had it moved as opposed to Pecco who kept it where it was. For the rest I tried the new Michelin, some new solutions at the electronics level and reverified some solutions from the pre-season that had not given a clear answer and that worked here - he explained - We also focused on something to improve the performance without losing the base that we have. Some according to the engineers have room for development, but overall they have not changed my feelings. However, these are very delicate tests that will need reconfirmation."

About the tires, he said, "I focused only on the compounds, because we don't know what carcass will be adopted in 2026 even in light of the change of supplier starting in 2027. In the eventuality I will try that as well, just to get an idea and give my opinion to the French manufacturer."

For a few laps he was seen behind Bagnaia, an unintended slipstream and in his opinion it was something that happened by chance. "He was running in 1'39" and I was running in 1'37", so I caught up and passed him, but it was not in the plan," he revealed.

Going back in his mind to the accident that took him out of the race on Sunday afternoon, he declared, "It was a crash that I should have avoided because it was due to excessive speed and I was aware of it. I went wide and tried to keep my line. It was a left turn and I felt very comfortable, in fact it was the first slide of that type this season. I was convinced I could make it and lose a couple of tenths at most, but I sinned in confidence as clearly shown by the telemetry analyzed cold. Next time I will have to be more careful. Am I angry with myself? No, these things happen. It certainly weighs that in spite of my form and the start of the championship I am second, however, I am still one point behind. The reason for this is that I made important mistakes that must be avoided if you want to fight for the World Championship. That said, the speed is there, but there are these moments that bother me. Even though this is the year I have crashed the least on Sunday, I have already scored two zeros."

"Yesterday afternoon I tried to figure out the reason why I ended up on the ground and tried to memorize it so I wouldn't repeat it in the future. Luckily there was a test scheduled immediately that could help me to confirm the good feelings and in fact we were always fast today," he finished his reasoning on the latest knockout blow he suffered.

Sunday was an important day for the Marquez family, however, thanks to Alex's first MotoGP victory. "We didn't celebrate, but I stopped by to say hello because I have so many friends in the Gresini team. They deserve this result so I went to the hospitality for dessert and to congratulate Nadia and the others."

Alex may receive a gift from Ducati, the updated bike for 2025. "The manufacturer will decide, I don't get into that. I'm me and he is him. Gresini has agreements with the manufacturer and I deal with mine. I can only say that with the base he has he is doing a very good job and anyway the GP24 is very similar to the GP25. Faced with that as an official team we will have to keep working to improve and create more margin. In any case he is riding well and he is fast so I am proud of what he is doing," he commented.

Finally teased about the fact that without his brother success Ducati's string of 22 consecutive first places would have been broken, he replied, "Yes indeed, he made a good gift."
