Alex Marquez won the Grand Prix at Jerez, and from a certain point of view this victory is a sort of circle that also closes for Gresini Racing. There will be more days of celebration, because the Alex seen so far in 2025 will certainly be able to give a lot more satisfaction to his team, but today it was Michele Masini, team manager of the team, who after winning with Marc in 2024, who is enjoying Alex's triumph and also the top of the riders' classification.
"It is a fairy tale that continues - were Masini's words - only Alex and we know how much work he is doing, how much dedication and commitment he is putting in. We are in our third year together and to have arrived here, after we believed so much, after we gave each other so much trust, to these results...it repays us all for all the work done. Tomorrow we will already look ahead to the next race, but today we have to enjoy this day. We knew this victory would come because I know how much this guy is worth, in my opinion he is a rider that needs to be reevaluated a little bit. He is a two-time world champion, he has always come out on top, today came the first victory in MotoGP and he is also the leader of the championship. It's not a victory that came by chance, but it's the result of amazing consistency."
How did you especially experience those last laps?
"The 25 laps were very long, the last nine were never ending. It was a unique emotion. Today it's more emotion than pure joy. That's the beauty of this sport. Today we won with Alex, too bad for Fermin who didn't finish the race but he showed great potential. He was fifth, it means his time will come too. If these things happen while you're going so strong it's okay, I'm super proud of this team."
Alex has shown a big step forward from 2024. What do you think about that?
"I think if we take a good look at this weekend, if we also look at the way he handled the crashes and the second one was really big... he got back on the bike and went really strong right away, and even today after a long run in Turn 6 he was immediately able to recover. It means that the potential is there and he is aware of it. Friday was useful for us to realize that we are on the limit, sometimes even a little too much on the limit and it is right sometimes to recognize that. Today is the full crowning achievement of the path Alex is on."
In Gresini Racing then there is a wonderful story, after the passing of Fausto you won with Bastianini, you won with Di Giannantonio, with Marc and now also with Alex.
"Today the emotions are also about that. Behind that there is all this history. When we decided to bet on Alex, we did it because he believed so much, he was so hungry, he was only thinking about results and that is also our mentality. Then he is also a person who is great with our team, he is smiling and he likes to make those who work with him smile and we don't consider that as secondary to the sporting aspect. They have to be equal because this is also something that has to be able to make a difference in a satellite team."
