The premises seemed to be of the best, instead Jerez presented a hefty bill to pay for Marc Marquez. In fact, the Spaniard ended up on the ground during the third lap, losing control of his Ducati in Turn 8. Nevertheless, he managed to rejoin, finishing 12th behind Zarco's Honda. "The only good news of this day is the victory of my brother Alex," said the Spanish champion, "One of his goals was to win a race in MotoGP and now he can tell everyone about it. At the same time we must not forget that he is first in the World Championship and is in great form. I would have liked to be on the podium with him. He is a great talent, he has won two titles and we must not forget that, because he is capable of doing great things."
Marc, what happened to you instead?
"Unfortunately I crashed and these things cannot happen if you want to fight for a World Championship. Maybe the crash was due to the fact that I always rode alone over the weekend while today I had two bikes in front of me. At the end with this aerodynamics it changes the behavior of the bike, but we will have to understand well what happened and analyze everything. It's too bad because I was fast all weekend."
How much is this crash significant?
"Unfortunately it is a serious mistake. This season I'm trying to stay calm, I've never crashed so little, but I've already made two mistakes in the race. The fact is that if I want to fight for the title, I cannot make such mistakes."
This is the second mistake of the season....
"True, but the point is that I understood the Austin mistake well, while this one I didn't. What I can say is that last year Bagnaia crashed several times in this way, that is, at the moment when you release the brakes. At that moment I was calm, in front of me was Pecco, in fact I had the situation under control, but unfortunately I crashed."
Last year Bagnaia lost a World Championship like that....
"Exactly, it's really very strange, it's the year I crash the least and we have to try to understand what happened, especially the character of this bike. That said, Ducati is performing well, but if we have to aim for the title we have to learn and treasure the mistakes. In the end, Alex is one point ahead of me, why not consider him for the fight in the world championship?"
Was it a crash dictated by going all in?
"I am calm, I am trying to do my best. I certainly didn't go down to go all in."
Do you think the crash was perhaps due to tire pressure?
"I would say it was too early, because we were only on the third lap."
Despite the crash, we witnessed a great comeback....
"I was coming back up, there was a group of riders in front of me that I could have caught up with, but I didn't want to overdo it, I remembered what happened in 2020 in the same situation. However, I managed to recover some points and that's the important thing. After the crash it was not easy, because I had to wait seven or eight laps for the fairing to wear out, since it was touching the ground in the left turns."
What happened instead at the start?
"Unfortunately, the start was not as perfect as I would have hoped. I inserted the lowering device, but at the start I was overtaken. The contact with Bagnaia? At 10 I was wide and I tried to close the door at 11. We had a contact because the bike wheelies, but it's no big deal. I just tried to close the throttle and stay calm."
