Johann Zarco is currently the best Honda rider despite not being in the factory team but in LCR with Lucio Cecchinello, although by now the difference between the satellite team and HRC has been reduced to zero. Thanks in part to the Frenchman's performance.
It is no mystery, however, that the two-time Moto2 world champion would like to arrive in HRC, but instead of whom? Apparently the only rider whose contract is expiring is Luca Marini.
Obviously Lucio Cecchinello would like to keep him with the team, not least because the Thai Chantra is permanently at the back of the grid. However, Zarco is increasingly liked by the Japanese management, which also intends to use him in the Suzuka 8 Hours.
"I have already planned to do a couple of tests, after the Silverstone and Aragon GPs, before the race that will be held on August 1-3. I have a pretty tight schedule," Johann admitted, "but I'm not doing it to please Honda. I am also comfortable in those kinds of races and I like them."
Obviously what drives Johann Zarco is prestige, related to the in-house team. A prestige that is then reflected not only in a direct contract with the brand, but also with all the related sponsors. Something the 34-year-old Frenchman - who turns 35 in July - cannot help but consider.
