Enea Bastianini's Friday at Jerez was spent playing catch-up. In fact, the Romagna-based rider was classified 19th at the end of FP2, more than a second behind with his KTM. On his part there is a lot of disappointment, because the script seems to be more or less the same as when the race weekend starts.
The fact remains that Enea is trying to analyze with a clear head what happened today on the Andalusian track.
"It was a really difficult day, especially at the beginning," he said, "every time I arrive at a new track it's strange, because it's as if I were getting on this bike for the first time. I am in fact surprised by this. At the end of FP2 we managed to improve, but not just to the level I would like. Unfortunately, the bike is nervous and does not turn much, it is very difficult to be strong in the fast corners, especially in the left turns of T3. By the way, the wind was stronger."
Did you try the new forks and rear aerodynamics?
"We tried different solutions, but in the end the bike is more or less the same. I like the other fork solution, considering I tried the rear wing today, but at certain times we are a bit confused. Less vibration? It depends, on some occasions yes, on others no. With the new tire the sensations are revealed to be better."
Is continuity therefore lacking?
"Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable and I go through ups and downs. We start off struggling, then we finish well. I was hoping to be in a different situation, because I can't push hard."
How big do you think this obstacle is?
"The problem is mainly is that I can't do the cornering and when I have someone in front of me I can't keep up with them. Acosta? I don't really know what bike he is using, whether the one from last year or the new one. I am using this year's and I am one of the few, if not the only one with the different rear box. That said: I think everyone has a different bike. At the moment the direction is not clear except that I am the last one on the KTM at the time when you have to do a good lap."
