MotoGP, Michelin: "Jerez subjects tires to continuous stress"

"Even if the asphalt isn't aggressive." For the Spanish GP, last year's options are confirmed, with a harder compound for the front.

MotoGP: Michelin:

Located in the heart of Andalusia in southern Spain, the Jerez circuit is one of the most iconic venues on the MotoGP calendar. Inaugurated in 1986, it has hosted the championship every year since 1987. It is a well-known circuit and regularly visited by Michelin and all the teams, since it's a favorite venue for private tests. Jerez attracts a large and passionate audience every year, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere. The 4.423-kilometer track is technical and twisty, with thirteen turns (five left-hand and eight right-hand), and two relatively short straights, the longest of which measures just over 600 meters. Although the asphalt isn't particularly abrasive, the sequence of turns and lack of extended straight sections place high demands on the tires, which must provide consistent and reliable performance in all riding conditions.

"It's true that the Jerez circuit isn't aggressive for our tires, but it subjects them to continuous stress," Piero Taramasso, Michelin's Two-Wheel Motorsport Manager, explained. "This continuous intensity had led us to introduce a new, slightly harder front compound last season, and we made the right choice. On Friday alone, three riders had broken the lap record! Despite the weekend's unpredictable weather conditions, the return of dry weather on Sunday had highlighted the excellence and durability of our tires. In fact, the race record had been broken with two laps to go. A clear testament to the performance of our MotoGP tires."

For the Spanish Grand Prix, Michelin will provide its partners with a selection of slick tires, with three front options (soft, medium, hard) and two rear options (soft and medium). All the front tires are symmetrical, while the rears are asymmetrical, with a harder right side to account for the greater number of right-hand turns.

In case of rain, the range will be available in soft and medium compound for the front and rear tires. These are also asymmetrical, with a reinforced right side, just like their slick counterparts.
