Moto3, Maximo Quiles also no-show in Jerez

The Marquez brothers' 17-year-old protégé hasn't yet recovered from the injury to his right hand. That's the reason why he won't be racing in the Spanish Grand Prix.

Moto3: Maximo Quiles also no-show in Jerez

After injuring the thumb of his right hand during a training session before Qatar, Maximo Quiles is still recovering and will, therefore, have to also skip the Spanish Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend at the Jerez track. The second consecutive absence of the young Moto3 rider was announced in the CFMoto Aspar team's social media channels yesterday.

The season of the most long-awaited rookie, Maximo Quiles, began by fits and starts. The enfant prodige who grew under the "Vertical" wing of the Marquez brothers has, in fact, already been forced to skip the first two rounds in Thailand and Argentina, due to the age limits imposed by the regulations of the cadet class. But, as soon as he blew out the candles of his 17th birthday, the very young Quiles crossed the Atlantic Ocean to make his MotoGP debut on the unfamiliar Austin track, moreover justifying with a race baptism - second in qualifying and fifth in the race - the high expectations everyone had for him.

Unfortunately, his recovery from surgery for a fracture of the first metacarpal bone of his right hand - which was performed using synthetic material last April 11th - will keep him away from the blue-white kerbs of Jerez, where the new promise of Iberian motorcycling was supposed to start, backed by his two gold victories from the European Talent Cup in 2021 and 2023.

Just like in Qatar, Joel Esteban will again be riding Quiles' KTM in Andalucia, joining Dennis Foggia on the Aspar team.

But the 17-year-old rider won't be the only illustrious absentee in the Moto3: the LEVELUP-MTA team's Italian rider, Matteo Bertelle, will also be skipping round, since he's still struggling with a bad injury. He'll be replaced by Vicente Perez, just back from winning Eace 1 in the inaugural round of the CIV Moto3 that was held in Misano in April 5th.
