Davide Bulega, that time with Lawson at the Casanova and Cagiva

PHOTOGALLERY - Davide recalls: "Lawson was my teacher when I was a test rider in Cagiva. The problem was that I was riding four seconds slower than he was. But Eddie got me to the 1'56" mark, then what shouldn't have happened, happened."

News: Davide Bulega, that time with Lawson at the Casanova and Cagiva

Davide Bulega told us all about his son, Nicolò. At the same time, he spoke about when he raced motorcycles in the 1990s, like the 250 with Aprilia, then in the SSP, and when he was a test rider in Cagiva when Eddie Lawson was there.

This is what he said.
"I used to be a test rider for Lawson during the Cagiva days. I still remember Mugello, lapping at 1'59", while Doohan was lapping at 1'54", and Lawson at 1'55". Since I couldb't ride as fast as they did, unfortunately, I couldn't give them the true directions they needed. So, Engineer Goggi told me to get into Lawson's slipstream and let him tow me."

You then seized the opportunity.
"It didn't seem real to me, because it was like a soccer fan getting to dribble the ball with Maradona. In fact, I stuck behind Lawson and, from the 1'59", I lapped at 1'56"-1'57", that is, times never seen before, let alone imagined, at Mugello."

Then?
"We got to the Casanova Savelli, where he was entering in third, while I was doing it in second, third gear, even if I was faster than he was in mid corner. At that point, I thought of overtaking him. The problem was that I did an absurd highside with the bike, coming to a stop at the Arrabbiata 1. Unfortunately, that's what happened, and I still remember that image today," he said, smiling."
