He would've been 6th but, because of Vinales' penalty, he came in 5th. So, Fermin Aldeguer left Qatar with a smile on his face, not only for having raced with the best riders, but also for having beaten Alex Marquez, who came in behind him, after he came into contact with Di Giannantonio.
"It was my best weekend since I've been racing in the MotoGP. I was fast in all the practice sessions and also in the races, but I had some bad luck. In the GP, I had a small problem with the rear tire, and I had a lot of vibration and a lot of chattering. I was sliding everywhere. So, as a result, it was impossible to battle with Zarco and Morbidelli. This leaves me with a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth, because I could've fought for other positions, but I'm still happy because I'm in the top five," the Gresini Racing rider said.
Speaking of the first European trip scheduled in Jerez, the 20-year-old said: "Now we're going to a smaller track, where I feel good, in front of my fans, and where I won the Moto2 in 2024, so I hope to repeat the weekend in Lusail. As for precise goals, I don't set myself any. I just hope to get into the Q2 right away and fight for at least the top ten."
Regarding Maverick's case, the rider from Murcia has his own idea. "I think, at some point, he preferred to leave the race to get the temperature of his tires down. These are issues that he'll have to see with his team but, if there's a rule, it means that having a non-compliant pressure confers an advantage. However, I prefer to think about me. As far as I'm concerned, I always try to respect the limits imposed."
Returning to his placement in Qatar, the Iberian rider confessed: "It gives a lot of confidence, but I have to stay calm and keep working. In Spain, we'll have to try to adapt the bike to the needs of the track, but the starting foundation is good, so I think there are premises to do well and finish in the top five in the long race. Now I understand my Desmosedici better, as well as the tires and electronics, even if there's still a lot to do, particularly in terms of set-up. Everything went well here, however, some changes may be necessary for the future."
Finally, when asked if there's an ongoing comparison with the other Ducatistas, he remarked: "I'm focused on myself and on adapting to the style required by the Desmosedici. I actually look at the data of other, but only to have the references on braking points and for the speed to have in corners."
