It was rather a negative Sunday in Assen for Nicolò Bulega and Ducati. Two electrical problems in fact knocked out the Aruba rider, forcing him to retire. Regarding what happened Marco Zambenedetti was present post-race to clarify the situation.
The Borgo Panigale company's Superbike manager put his face to it immediately, presenting himself without too much delay to our microphones. It was also a tough blow to take for the Veneto engineer, who has worked hard this winter to allow Bulega to be up there at the front contending for podiums and victories.
Today it turned out the wrong way, but someone like Zambenedetti can't help but be given credit that if Bulega and Ducati are up there at the front, a large part of the effort must go to him.
"I wanted first of all to apologize to Nicolò for what happened," he told us, "unfortunately we had to deal with two identical electrical problems, both in the morning and in the afternoon. Basically it's the same problem. Evidently, the actions taken after the Superpole Race did not prove sufficient or we did not correctly identify the cause, so once back in the factory we will study the data and find the problem in order to solve it."
It's really strange to see a Ducati stop twice in a row....
"Reliability is also part of winning races."
Had something like this happened before?
"The engine simply cut out. Now we will try to cross-reference past data to understand more specifically."
Do you think what happened may also be due to the latest regulation changes?
"Right now I don't feel like calling the regulation changes into question. It is still unclear, so as a result we will have to evaluate."
