The wheel of fortune turns, you know, and this Sunday, in Assen, it fell to Andrea Locatelli. Aggressive for the entire Race 2, as in the previous days, the Yamaha rider did not miss out at the right time, that is, on a bit of an off-day for Razgatlioglu (BMW) and for Bulega (Ducati).
"Mine may not be a 100 percent win, but still it is because I was ready. I was second, I didn't make any mistakes and I didn't have any technical problems, so I have to be happy with the result, although I would have been equally happy if I had come in behind the V4 R. That's the sport for you. What happens to the others I cannot control, I can only push to get to the front," were his words.
Inevitably there were big celebrations in the pit garage."The team is happy for me, but in general for everything that has been done. For me it's like family and I spend a lot of time with them. I don't know how many second places I have accumulated and today finally came the first win," he could not contain his excitement.
Reviewing his race the Italian said, "I tried to stay with the Ducati. It was not easy, but I still had a good pace helped by the fact that this is a friendly track for the R1. At the beginning of the race the wind gave me a little bit of trouble, but then I gained confidence and competitiveness. On the tire front while yesterday I destroyed the front, today was good. So far we have made progress in several aspects and everything is working well, we just need that little bit more to make a difference. Let's say that if you get a good start on Friday you can focus on the details, and on this occasion I felt comfortable from the very first moment. With the team we did a very good job," he said right after the race.
About the strong-willed character he is showcasing in this 2025 season, the 28-year-old acknowledged, "I still have a lot to learn, but I must never stop believing. As I have often repeated it is crucial to take advantage of every opportunity, and here it really seemed possible as early as Saturday. Beyond everything I had a good weekend, and even though the first success has come in years I must not stop hoping that it can happen again. It's an achievement we deserve and we have to keep it up. Certainly today's outcome gave me motivation. To whom do I dedicate it? To my family and to all of Selvino, which always pushes for me. Tonight, most likely, the bell tower will fall down!"
