MotoGP, Bezzecchi: "The problem is that with new tires I can't overtake"

"The fight in the middle of the group was fun. I had Acosta in my sights, however, in the end I couldn't catch him. Overall we struggled more than expected in Lusail. I would like to be in Jerez already."

MotoGP: Bezzecchi:

The intention was to fight for positions further up and instead Marco Bezzecchi had to deal with a RS-GP25 that was less responsive than expected. Tenth at the checkered flag, the Aprilia rider still wanted to look at the glass half full at the end of the Qatar GP.

"It was a difficult race like the whole weekend. I constantly struggled to manage the tires, but at least I gained some points even though we are still a long way from the positions that count. On the technical front, compared to Saturday, we improved and the bike felt more stable. However, to get more stability, we lost power. Especially in the first few laps, with new tires, I can't push and overtake. Until the tires start to drop and the level of the group becomes more similar I have to be on the defensive. After that I manage to build up my pace, but it's usually too late," analyzed the Romagna rider, convinced that Lusail was the most complex weekend for him so far.

"In Austin there were some critical issues on Friday, but then we improved, here we made small progress, but it was tough. The manufacturer is working hard and hopefully for Jerez there will be some updates that can help us. I honestly wish I was already there," he continued. On the battle in the middle of the group, he said instead, "It was fun, I made good passes on Ogura, Binder and Marini. I almost caught Acosta, but I didn't make it."

Making an overall assessment, he added, "We are making progress and gathering useful information. Of course we would like to do more, but sometimes you have to be patient. To the technicians I don't want to suggest what to bring, the hope is that the sensations I brought back to them can lead us to make progress. On the positive side, my feedback was also confirmed by Martin. Here we suffered more than expected, so hopefully lessons can be learned for the next races. In 2024, however, it seems to me they struggled less with the Aprilias."

To conclude. asked about the strength of the wind that may have facilitated some of the contacts, he summed up, "To me it seemed manageable. As for the incident between Di Giannantonio and Alex Marquez, the spot where it happened is a very fast section where you often get sucked irrespective of the presence or absence of the wind."
