Defeated and off the podium. Toprak Razgatlioglu's epilogue in Race 1 at Assen was really a bitter one. And, as if that weren't enough, Nicolò Bulega even won.
The Turkish rider is very upset about his Saturday, since he also lost 3 positions on the grid for slowing down Bulega in his hot lap in the Superpole.
"Unfortunately, it was a difficult Saturday," he said. "At first, the biggest problem was the front tire. Consequently, I had to adapt, finding a solution. Then, after eleven laps, the rear tire started to wear out quickly, without my knowing why. I couldn't ride, the bike was sliding all the time. In the end, we all used the same tire but, with the sudden wear, I can't explain it. I was trying to break away early, follow the lines calmly. We honestly don't know the reason for this."
In all this, Bulega won.
"True! Fortunately, I was able to finish fourth, thanks to all the falls. Otherwise, I would've ended up much further behind. We'll see what happens tomorrow. It could rain, the temperatures could be different, consequently, we'll see what happens."
Did you expect the penalty for what happened in qualifying?
"Honestly, what happened doesn't represent me. I only saw Axel and his bike behind me, but not Nicolò. I knew we had ruined his lap. and I understand his disappointment. In the end, these are the rules, and I don't have much to add."
Did Pirelli explain to you what happened? Or the engineers?
"Yesterday, I did fourteen laps with the same rear without feeling any problems while, today, it was destroyed without knowing why. The only thing I can say is that the bike is not like last year's. In fact, I can't ride the way I want to, and I miss those sensations I was used to."
What do you think about this start of the World Championship?
"This is Ducati's year! Their package is good, the rules are good for them. I can't use last year's chassis, and this is the situation. Everyone sees it. They're always in front. Of course, I'm not giving up, I'm going to try, but this is the situation. taking into consideration the great work done by Bulega and their potential."
