SBK, Superbike paddock remembers Gian Franco Carloia on the grid at Assen

Today, shortly after Race 1 of SBK, came the sad news of the passing of Gian Franco Carloia, Superbike race director. In recent months he had been struggling with a serious illness, which took him away on this Saturday raceday.

A prominent figure, he left his mark on the production-based championship paddock, so much so that he was remembered with a minute's silence.

This evening, on the grid, riders and insiders gathered to remember the memory of Gian Franco Carloia. The tears were joined by a final round of applause from everyone for what he did all these years as race director of Superbike.
